Question
I'm looking for information about a 60HP 7-seater touring Waverley, made in 1913 and selling for about $3000.
Can you help direct me to sources that might tell me what that car looked like, how it ran, how many miles it could travel in an hour or a day?
Answer
Hi BL:
Thanks for your inquiry re 1913 Waverley Electric.
One of the best references about the genesis of the American automobile in the "Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805 - 1942," by Beverly Rae Kimes, C 1996. This reference is available at most good libraries. It is available at Amazon.com
This reference has two and an half pages of material on Waverley, which may be a good place to start. It doesn't seem to include much mechanical information.
Regarding the driving range of electric cars I would talk to someone familiar with electric drive. I would recommend contacting David Kirsch, University of California at Los Angeles. He presented a paper at the Third Biennial Automotive History Conference, in March 2000, on Electric Vehicles 1965-1998. He has also written on the history of the electric car.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for your question.
